Well, I was talking with my Dad the other day, and we somehow got onto the topic of a favorite book series of mine, which is the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield.
The four books in this series (Uglies, Pretties, Specials, and the sequal book; Extras.) take place in the future, around the year 3,000; where hoverboards, interface rings, and extreme plastic surgery goes on every second of every day.
Now, the sequel to the Uglies trilogy, Extras, seems to be set in Japan. Although they never do confirm the actual year or where the story takes place, throughout the books we do get a generalized guess based on the information in the books.
Now, it mentioned early on in Extras how everyone in that city had gotten surgery to make their eyes look like manga characters, big, watery and expressive – Not to mention totally cute and adorable, or, if you wanted, slanted and serious like – and this got me thinking: We’re moving pretty forward into the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if hover boards and flying cars were as reachable to the public as the iPhone is today.
Eventually, I brought this topic up to my Dad, where, after a good half-hour conversation including the series and guesses of what would happen in my life time, we went our seperate ways again, going on to the rest of our daily rituals.
Now, a few days later, he sent me an e-mail, leading me to an article, explaining how getting anime and manga like eyes aren’t going to be available in the next decade; because we can get them right now!
I was very pleased to hear that, and, even though my vision is good enough that I don’t need eye glasses or contacts (and hopefully it will stay that way…) these are mostly for the sake of having big looking eyes, or cosplaying at the next anime convention you’ll be going to. So, I will probably not get eyes like the people in Pokemon any time soon, but that’s not to say when they get more available (these are from Japan- I’m not sure if America is selling them yet, but they probably will soon.) by the time I can go out and get these myself.
Depending on the price, I’d have a few color choices. Like a green or hazel to match my own eye color, purple, because it is my favorite color (not to mention everyone who’d be in awe of them.) And red. Mainly because, if I learn to sleep with my eyes open, I can give everyone heart attacks when they come into my room too early in the morning – to find themselves staring in the face of a VAMPIRE!! MU-HA-HA!!! And get myself an extra ten minutes of sleep; unless, of course, they try and drive a stake through my heart.
Now then, if you’re ready to kill me because I didn’t give you the information, then put your tources away so I can put up the links!
